New Providence Presbyterian Church, Academy, and Cemetery is a historic site in
Surgoinsville, Tennessee.The church was built in 1785 and added to the
National Register of Historic Places in 1978.
Maxwell Academy was established by the Presbyterian Church in 1852 and named in honor of Captain George Maxwell, who fought in the Battle of Kings Mountain. Serving students in grades one through twelve, the academy was operated by the New Providence Presbyterian Church until 1907.
